Welcome to the newly named Griffin Class.

My name is Mr Beresford and I will be the class teacher for Griffin Class. I am very excited to be part of Kimberley Primary School and finally get started teaching the children of Griffin Class. Joining the children and I in the classroom will be my colleague, Mrs Kempa whom many of you already know.

The attached curriculum newsletters outline the plan for each term. Please do come and see me if you have any questions.

Summer Term Updates:

This term we will be studying World Wars 1 and 2, focusing on the First World War in the first half term and then the Second World War after the half term break. As part of this Years 3 and 4 will be visiting Pearlsthorpe Activity Centre to take part in a number of World War related activities. More details to follow soon.

Spring Term Updates:

Due to the Year 3 residential there are no planned trips of visits for Year 4 this term but that is not to say that we will not have a brilliantly entertaining term. Please see this terms Curriculum News Letter for more details.

Curriculum Week (WB 21st of January):

With the Year 3 children away and Mrs Kempa along with them, Year 4 took the opportunity to have a curriculum focus week. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we broke away from our usual routine of English and Maths in the morning, instead focusing on other areas of the curriculum. We spent time studying Hinduism, considering what it means to be truly empathetic in PHSE and working in teams to create a A3 report on the romans. We were also fortunate enough to have a session on Wheelchair Basketball, which was very enjoyable!

Here are a couple of pictures of what we got up to...

Autumn Term Updates:

Thursday 27th of September

Griffin and Phoenix classes taking part in a full days workshop on Ancient Egypt.

The day started with a fact finding session and informative talk from an Egyptologist. We then moved on to taking measurements, the Ancient Egyptian way and playing Ancient Egyptian games. After lunch the classes were treated to a live mummification and then had the opportunity to practice their hunting skills!

Friday 12th of October

Griffing class have finalised their designs for our Ancient Egyptian Death Masks and have made a start in realising their designs! It's still early days but the foundations are in place. Next week will begin the real work. Pictures to follow!

Oh, and a BIG THANK YOU to all the parents and staff who helped resource the lesson with cardboard and newspaper. We have so much cardboard now its coming out of our ears, so no more please! Any remaining newspaper will still be much appreciated.

Class Activities:

Portals to the Past – Ancient Egyptian Workshop

On the 27th of September our colleagues from Portals to the Past will be in school to run a whole day workshop for both year 3 and 4 on the Ancient Egyptians partaking in entertaining and informative activities. As part of the day children can come to school dressed as Egyptologists (jeans, shorts, wacky jumpers, hats, etc.) or as an Ancient Egyptian.

Portals to the Past recommend the following websites from which to locate suitable fancy-dress outfits;

More details about the work will be provided to parents closer to the time.
