At Kimberley Primary School & Nursery, we are committed to nurturing the whole child and believe that personal development is just as important as academic achievement. We strive to create a caring, inclusive environment where every pupil can develop the confidence, character and life skills needed to thrive both in school and beyond. Through our curriculum, assemblies, wider opportunities and daily interactions, we help children build positive relationships, understand their emotions and develop the resilience needed to face challenges with confidence.
Supporting pupils' mental health and well-being is a key part of our approach. We use the NHS-approved myHappymind programme to help children understand how their brains work, manage their emotions, develop positive habits and build self-esteem. By promoting emotional literacy and wellbeing from an early age, we equip pupils with strategies that support both their learning and their overall happiness.
Our commitment to personal development is further enhanced through our work as a UNICEF UK Rights Respecting Schools Award school. Children learn about their rights and responsibilities, developing respect, empathy and a strong sense of justice. Through learning about the rights of every child, pupils gain a deeper understanding of equality, inclusion and the importance of valuing diversity. This links closely to the Protected Characteristics outlined in the Equality Act, helping children appreciate and celebrate differences while challenging discrimination and prejudice. By understanding that everyone has rights and deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, pupils are prepared to become active, responsible citizens in a diverse society.
The promotion of British Values is embedded throughout school life. Through lessons, assemblies, pupil leadership opportunities and everyday experiences, children develop an understanding of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. These values complement our Rights Respecting ethos, encouraging pupils to respect the rights of others, express their views confidently and contribute positively to their communities.
We also provide a wide range of enrichment opportunities that broaden children's experiences and inspire new interests and talents. Through educational visits, clubs, sports, performances, leadership roles, community projects and cultural experiences, pupils are encouraged to step outside their comfort zones, discover their strengths and develop the confidence to succeed. Together, these opportunities help us nurture well-rounded, happy and successful learners who are equipped with the knowledge, skills and values needed for the next stage of their education and for life in modern Britain.
